Abstract
The Cao Bằng - Tiên Yên Fault Zone is an active fault, at least two active phases of the fault during the Neogene - Quaternary period were recognized. The indications of motion of the fault were evidenced by geomorphological data, remote sensing interpretation and field observations. In which, the earlier phase was characterized by left-lateral strike slip while the later event demonstrates right-lateral strike-slip motion. The activities of these tectonic defomations have triggered geological hazards along the fault such as earthquake, soil crack, landslide and river erosion etc.
