Abstract
White sand of marine-eolian origin in the Ba Đồn (Quảng Bình Province) and Phong Điền (Thừa Thiên Huế Province) areas forms sand dunes with the width of 140-500 m, the length of 400-3,200 m, the thickness of 2.1-2.5 m and the absolute height of 4.58-8.9 m, extending in a nearly north-south direction. Its composition consists mainly of white, greyish-white sand, regularly small-grained sand. The chemical composition of sand is as follows (%): SiO2 = 99,10; Fe2O3 = 0,06; FeO = 0,34; TiO2 = 0,03; Cr2O3 = 0,002; Al2O3 = 0,08; K2O = 0,02; Na2O = 0,02; CaO <0,01; MgO <0,01; P2O5 <0,005; SO3 <0,005; LOI = 0,09. After washing, the product reaches the quality of raw materials for such industries as: pottery, fire-brick, casting mould, polishing powder, glass, technique concrete, etc..
