Abstract

To clarify the effects of climate change (CC) causing the generation of exogenous geohazards in the study area (including three provinces in the Central region of Vietnam: Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị and Thừa Thiên Huế), the article presents some aspects as follows:

- Confirming the occurrence and mechanism of El-Nino, La-Nina as well as related natural hazards, especially storms, tropical cyclones, floods and droughts.

- Clarifying the abnormal changes of the main climate characteristics due to the impacts of El-Nino, La-Nina as the criteria for identifying these phenomena in the study area.

- Proposing the relative rainfall index () to be used for classifying and evaluating the effects of each rainfall regime on exogenous geohazards.
