Abstract

In the Khánh Sơn and Khánh Vĩnh mountainous districts, Khánh Hòa province, during recent years, the process of landslides and rock falls along road talus are very serious. Each year, they can cause damages of hundreds of billions VND, and create even risk of human life to local residents and passengers. To assess basically this phenomenon in order to find basic causes and effective solutions, a scientific research project of provincial level was implemented. The project manager has evaluated the susceptibility of landslide and rock fall at road talus, and then combined with the slope stability analysis for typical slopes (for 102 selected points), the evaluation results of riverbank stabilization (erosion risk level), along with other factors to identily the risks of landslides and rock falls in the road talus in the area. Finally, basic causes of landslides and rock falls and solutions to prevent, overcome or mitigate the damage here were proposed.
