Abstract

The inscription of the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau by UNESCO in the Global Geoparks Network has created many development opportunities for this border highland area of our Fatherland. Five years after inscription, besides strong changes in economic, cultural and social aspects, the authorities and people here are facing challenges in respect of conservation and bringing into play the value of the heritage. Planning of conservation, upgrading and bringing into play the value of the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau Global Geopark is an urgent work requiring a proper and flexible strategy of the management agencies and the support of domestic and international communities. In the role of participants in the preparation of application documents submitted to UNESCO as well as the participants in the investigation, assessment, conservation and sustainable use of geoheritages in the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau Global Geopark, we introduce some scientific backgrounds as a contribution to the detailed planning of the geopark.
